On a visit to the Brooklyn Museum on October 7, 2023, I felt proud to see a Palestinian “thobe” like the ones I study. But then I saw the wall label.
Wafa Ghnaim
Wafa Ghnaim is a Palestinian dress historian, researcher, author, curator, and educator, who began learning embroidery from her mother, award-winning artist Feryal Abbasi-Ghnaim, when she was two years old. She founded the Tatreez Institute in 2016, and is currently the Curator at the Museum of the Palestinian People in Washington, D.C., and a Research Scholar at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art.
